Sensory Box July – The Beach

School’s out for summer! For various reasons I’m not going back to work for the time being so this is the first day of my new life as a Stay at Home Mum!! It’s kind of scary, last time I was home full time E. was 18 months old. I’m planning on gradually getting into a routine over the next few weeks and I’ve got some exciting plans for this blog and my sewing.

For now, we’re staying close to home and enjoying the sunshine while it lasts. This month’s sensory box is definitely reserved for outdoor play

I got the idea from At home with Ali  I didn’t have any sand and I wanted the box to last more than a day or two so the sand is actually Cloud Dough. It’s one part baby oil to eight parts flour. It’s moldable kind of like wet sand. Hopefully once we’re bored of the beach the cloud dough will still be good enough to play with.

I added some shells and a little castle from a sandcastle set. The people had beach towels made of fabric scraps and I pulled out a little spade from our construction lego set.

I put the sea into a metal tray to keep it separate from the sand. I put some glass beads and turtles in with water mixed with blue food colouring

The people had a nice time relaxing on the beach.

Then headed out for a little swim (they haven’t all drowned honestly).

After a good hour or so E. decided the people needed a boat to sit in so we found a pot from our collection/junk pile.

This was another cheap box, I only paid for the baby oil and flour – if you have a sand pit already it would be free!
