Foam fireworks

I saw this post at No Time For Flash Cards  and had a ‘lightbulb moment”!

We’ve tried playing with shaving foam before but Eli didn’t like putting his fingers in it. This time I provided ‘tools’ (paint brushes spoons and things from his play kitchen) for him to use and he was much more interested.

Shaving foam is a great medium for early letter formation so we’ll definitely be doing this again.

Sorry I’ve been a bit neglectful of this blog lately, school’s out in a couple of weeks so things are going to get a bit more interesting around here!

Tuff spot – car wash

We had a slightly warm day so I filled the tuff spot with soapy water

Robot Day post 3: Robot Sensory box

This is June’s sensory box as part of our robot theme from the weekend. (Other posts here and here)

Again it was inspired by counting coconuts. Basically it’s a somewhat random selection of anything we could use to make a robot out of. The contents include:

  • cut up kitchen roll tubs
  • tissue paper squares
  • buttons
  • glass beads
  • pipe-cleaners
  • goggly eyes
  • pom poms
  • paper clips
  • shiny card

and whatever else I could find that seemed appropriate. I was very brave and didn’t try and sort it into different containers

I labelled it using letters from Early Learning HQ. E was quite interested in the letters in the Zoo Box so I thought it was a good idea to continue to label the boxes

We’ve made various robots

The only thing I bought was some silver paint so the box was a bargain!

E is a robot apparently!

Robot Day post 2: Robot Play-dough

This is the second of my posts about our robot theme (first post here)

I’ve had this robot play-dough idea from Counting Coconuts pinned for a while. I  made the play-dough following these directions and added a load of black food colouring and silver glitter, I was really pleased with how the colour turned out.

Img_1357

This is the first time I’ve made play-dough on the hob. I’ve always done it in the microwave because I assumed it took forever on the hob. I have memories of my mum standing over it for ages to while it was cooking. In fact it only took around 5 minutes. I guess my mum was probably making massive batches and 10 minutes seemed like a long time when I was small!!

I tried to encourage E to make his own robot shapes but he wasn’t up for it at all so we used our robot cookie cutters (I actually bought them on sale at hobbycraft but they don’t stock them anymore). We added embellishments from the robot sensory tub

This is a Mike Wazowski robot apparently!

I’m planning on setting up a new play-dough activity each month so this counts as the first one!

Robot Day 1: Make your own robot sandwich

The weather’s been awful and I’ve been in a bit of a funk lately so decided I needed a plan for the day. So….we’ve been having a robot day, this is the first of a few posts.

I was inspired by this one  but I wanted Eli to make his own. So I made him a ‘make a robot sandwich’ muffin tin.

Img_1348

He had tomatoes, apples, quavers, bread, cheese and cucumber.  I cut everything into rough rectangles and made a rectangle sandwich.

I’m not sure it looks much like a robot but he enjoyed making it!
