Nesting boxes

The second atempt – details here

I used heavier fabric at the bottom so they stand up better.

They are in fact pretty easy to make – quite time consuming though.

For my Niece (6 yrs)

I stuck the label on the inside of the jar and totally anally arranged the coloured pencils by sticking them together with clear tape and then put mini stampers and gel pens the space inside.

The flower came from this tutorial I attached it to the lid using sicky dots.

Laundry Bag

My baby sister is going to Australia with her church for 18 months and neededed a laundry bag to take with her. I hunted around on pinterest (I love that site!!) and found this. It turns out that American kids go off to college with laundry bags so there were quite a lot of ideas out there.

I’m really proud of it :). It was technically more difficult than anything I’ve done. It was a more proffesional pattern than I’ve followed in the past. There’s a button hole for the cording to come through. My sewing machine doesn’t do button holes so I had to learn how to do them using zig-zag stitch. There are french seams – I didn’t know they existed prior to this!

Also my sewing machine is tiny. (I didn’t want a really expensive one when I first started out because I assumed it would be a fad!) There was a lot of fabric. I had to overstich the seam in the middle which basically involved putting the sewing machine inside the bag!

The fabric came from ikea. The towel doesn’t match, my lovely hubby is trying to help me improve the photography.

Pillowcases dress

For my beautiful new neice.

I used this tutorial  I didn’t put binding on the sleeves because I thought it’d look better hemmed – I think I was right 🙂 The bias binding was pretty fiddly – it’s very thin I think wider binding would be easier to use. There are lots of similar tutorials online, I chose this one because it has a 3-6 months printable pattern.

It was very easy to make and looks good – I think I’ll make more for summer birthdays.

The fabric is from Ikea, I bought it over 2 years ago with the intention of making myself a vest top – it hasn’t happened yet!

It’s winter so I bought a long sleeved vest and tights to go with it. Hopefully it’ll fit.

Cakes and Biscuits

I made some of these cakes (without the beads ontop) for my nephew’s second birthday and Eli loved them so much that I had to make some more.

I used this photo tutorial  unfortunately the link to the actual tutorial doesn’t work and I couldn’t work out how the icing was done but I think the flat icing with the beads works pretty well.

I made the biscuits for Christmas,  I looked at various ideas online and made them up! I quite like making felt food, it’s pretty time consuming because they’re mainly hand sewn but it’s a more sociable craft because I’m not suck to the sewing machine.

I’ve had the box in my ‘this’ll be useful one day’ box for ages. I think it originally had toiletries in it. The netting lid makes it great for a cake box and makes it more of a complete toy.
