Six sensory boxes for preschoolers

6 sensory tubs for preschoolers
Have you used sensory tubs with your little ones? I think Little Miss is just about ready for me to start making some for her so here is a round up of tubs I made for big brother – for reference he was three when he used all of these.

I don’t think all of these are ‘officially’ sensory boxes – I use that term for anything that’s, ‘a load of stuff in a big tub.’

Construction

This is probably the simplest to set up of the boxes in this roundup. It’s a good place to start if you want to have a go. Details

Ice -cream

Ice-cream sensory box

This took a bit of effort to make but he continued to play with the set for a couple of years so it was well worth it. Details

Early maths

I just gathered things I had around the house. Often I find both kids play with things differently if they are presented differently. Details

Zoo

He loved this one and I got to be seriously anal about tidying it up in the evening. Parenting tip – when cousins come to visit don’t leave 3 children alone with this tub!! (I can still remember the mess 😀 ) Details

Robot

Robot sensory box

This was basically a themed craft box. Details

The beach

Sensory box Beach

E. still talks about this one – I definitely intend to do it for both children next summer. Details

Have you used sensory tubs with your kids? I’d love some more ideas 🙂

  5. I like how you have used some similiar items throughout the tubs. That ice cream tub is inspired, I think I’d quite like to get my pom pom on to make something like this. The only sensory tubs we’ve done so far are coloured tubs with rice in. They look really good and my son really likes them. He’s just turned 16 months and doesn’t play with anything for long. I am looking forward to exploring some more small world things with him in the future. Thank you ever so much for linking up to #MessandPlay!

Oooo these are so adorable. Loved the Beach and Zoo tubs. I would love to make these and have tried somewhat similar things in the past but the mess drives me to lunacy so I am not sure I can handle it. Yet, I KNOW I will try it….the things we do for kids! sigh. Great ideas. Thanks. #messandplay

Thank you, in a weird way they let me indulge my anal tendencies without actually tidying my house 😉

(And the beach one was purely an outside toy – water and sand is my limit)
